Year: 2018
Hygge / Lifestyle / Danemark / Illustration / Visual Identity / Boxes and craft
Ooga is the correct pronunciation of Hygge in Denmark. It emphasizing slow life and the pleasure of being together and sharing good times and creating memories. This is why in this project, there was the development of four boxes, one per season, allowing the family to reunite around good times.
Logotype and Hygge Life
I gathered information about hygge from The Book of Hygge, Living Better the Danish Way, written by Meik Wiking, president of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen.
With hygge, no one is left out, but on the contrary is valued within the collective. Everyone counts in the same way; the idea is to be on an equal footing. This is what hygge advocates as a great unifying value. As Meik Wiking says: "be in the moment", "we" before "I".
The term OOGA is the phonetic of hygge, that's how I built my logo which forms a four-leaf clover thanks to the four letters.
Typography
After the start of my logo, I decided to work in parallel on a typography. I put forward the roundness of the forms in order to recall the hygge movement ; the absence of angles make the typography and the logo soft and smooth. So I created my entire typography by superimposing circles at equal scales.
First Box
The first box is a calendar you can use every year and receive in january, it looks like a flower when you open it
Second Box
The second box is about travelling, with postal cards made of wood and a world map in cork. With this world map you can track all of your travelling.
Post Card
The postcards have been printed in transfer technique on soft white wood. They represent scenes of life in connection with the activities advocated by the hygge.
Third Box
The third box is a sundial with activities inscribed on each note. You place the object on a table in the sun and when the day progresses the stick in the middle indicates the activity to be done.
Fourth Box
The fourth box is a game box to be able to play with the whole family during the winter evenings. The illustrations are added to each other according to the picks that we make and so on a story is created.
It is a game sampled through six illustrated cards that follow each other in any direction. For this I was inspired by The Hollow Woods, a storytelling card game, published by Magical Myrioramas. This game is played with several players, there is no limit to the number of players and it is not at all a competitive game.
